Description of the board game in German:

Based on the world-renowned video game Total War: ROME - The Board Game allows up to four players to play as the leaders of Rome, Carthage, Greece, and barbarian tribes of Gallo-Germania. Each player will conquer new lands, develop their faction, claim territories, recruit epic armies, fight enemies in intense battles, build their cities, raise taxes, spy, riot, trade, and so much more! In the ancient world, Total War: ROME: The Board Game is set, where players take control of the most important combatants in Europe from 400 BC to 50 BC as they seek to build their own empire and take control of the region around the Mediterranean Sea. In less than three hours, players will carefully balance their faction's military and economy as they compete to be the first to reach the top of the victory ladder. Rome is the "governor" of the ancient world, with an empire that lasted over 700 years, from its development under the Republic to the decline of the Empire. Carthage, the jewel of North Africa in the 3rd century BC, faced the might of Rome under Hannibal until it was defeated during the Second Punic War from 218 BC to 202 BC. Greece is the intellectual center of invention in the ancient world and became a great empire under Alexander the Great. The barbarian tribes comprised more than fifty tribes, ranging from the Lusitanians of Spain in the west, through the Averni of Gaul, to the Brigantes of Britannia, to the Belgae, to the Germanic tribes of the Alamanii, and further to the horse-based Sarmatians in the east.

The Vision:

Conquer new lands to expand your empire; grow your income through trade, markets and taxation; secure your lands with walls and barracks; use your agents to cause chaos for enemies and secure allies; recruit mercenaries from famous sources; and destroy your enemies in battle to create veteran armies led by legendary leaders and ultimately conquer their home regions. The Board Game: This is Total War: The Board Game .... but just the beginning.  The core game has a Core Faction Booster Set to play any nation in the computer game, our Alexander expansion takes you East and has its own Alexander Faction Booster Set, our Emperor expansion gives you a second game from the core box, fighting for control of the Senate, like the three main families from the beginning of the computer game, and our Battleplay expansion allows you to use the cards to play richer still tabletop battles with the cards in the core game.

CCC-System:

Within the game you will find an adaptation of Simon Hall’s Color Command and Combat System, which has proven very successful in tabletop figure wargames. As a designer, Simon played the computer game to death over 10 years – it was his constant travel companion. He has brought all that knowledge, his historical expertise, his wargaming expertise to create a rich game that retains the epic flavor of the computer game yet can be played in an evening.

Description of the expansion:

The Battle Play Expansion for Total War: ROME: The Board Game adds a deeper, more tactical battle experience - the equivalent of hitting "Play Battle" in the video game. Using the same army cards from the core game, fight a battle where you deploy your army in formations and fight in 4 phases over 10-15 minutes. Use this expansion in conjunction with the core game or fight standalone battles and tournaments. You can even re-fight famous battles from history with Battle Play!
