Harrow County is a small, rural community. Years ago, the witch Hester was hanged, burned, and buried under a tree in the otherwise sleepy village. Shortly after, a baby was discovered under that very tree. While Emmy, as the baby was christened, was lovingly raised by a farming family, she developed a deep connection to the land and its restless spirits. Together with a few other outsiders, they are now the protectors who want to defend the inhabitants of Harrow County from Hester's vengeful family.

Harrow County is an asymmetrical free-for-all combat game for 1 to 3 players aged 14 and up by design duo Jay Cornier and Shad Miller, based on the comic series by Cullen Bunn and Tyler Crook. You each play as one of the 5 factions (The Protectors, The Family, Kammi, Hester Beck, and the Haints), each with its own unique mechanics and different objectives. These range from protecting the inhabitants, finding an enchanted doll or the Fairy Queen, to destroying buildings with a storm or the rebirth of the witch. Harrow County tries to introduce you to the game chapter by chapter to make it easier to get started. Each chapter offers more rules, more components, and greater game depth. In a total of 5 chapters, you accompany Emmy and her adversaries through exciting adventures.

A witch named Hester was hanged, burned, and buried under a tree. Sometime later, Hester's family comes to Harrow County to destroy it, but eighteen-year-old Emmy, who mysteriously possesses her own powers, stands in their way. In the asymmetrical combat game Harrow County: The Game of Gothic Conflict, players can play as one of the Protectors trying to save the townspeople, or as one of the Family trying to destroy Harrow County. They can instead play as a third faction stemming from the surprising return of Emmy's twin sister, Kammi, who wants to rule Harrow County. Players activate Mason jars to move their Haints (undead creatures) around the hex-based board as they try to complete their missions. Combat is resolved using a never-before-seen dice tower built into the actual box. Finally, a third player can enter the game: Hester, the dead witch buried under the tree. She controls the roots of the tree, and with the dice tower, Hester can infect spirits on her roots, causing a snake to be placed in her ear. This player can still control this back door, but now Hester can too. If Hester returns to life, she must then eat the other legends to regain her full power to win. In short, Harrow County is a thematic, tactical game of territory control and enemy elimination to determine the fate of Harrow County.
