In 1812 – The War of 1812, players take on the roles of the warring parties in the War of 1812. On the British side, these are the regular army (Redcoats), Canadian militias, and Native Americans (Indians); on the American side, the regular American army and American militias. Players on both sides must coordinate their strategies to successfully carry out their campaigns. Each side must conquer certain cities and forts on the game board to win the game in the event of an armistice.

1812 - The War of 1812 uses the same mechanisms as 1775 - The American Revolution. 1812 is the more strategic game, as it is designed for 2 - 5 players and the units start without direct enemy contact. In addition, some of the basic rules are different.
The game also includes a shortened scenario that begins in 1813.
