It is a time of upheaval, as the Middle Ages end and the modern era is born. For the members of government, the situation is ripe for action. Your city must maintain its reputation, and you as prince must ensure that this happens. Virtù is set during the Italian Renaissance, with each player embodying one of the powerful Italian cities of the time, striving to make it more powerful than all others through "virtù," the ability to achieve great things through a strong state (according to Machiavelli). The basis of the game is "Wheelbuilding," which means creating a "wheel of actions" on your personal player board that has a unique arrangement compared to other players and comes with a different set of starting family cards. Depending on how you place the cards, you will have several options and a starting strategy, but you can acquire and place new cards to change your approach as the game progresses. You interact with others indirectly by taking cards they want or racing to objectives, or directly by sending agents to the palace or their cities and attacking cities. Artists, merchants, and diplomats can also work to increase your prestige. Virtù includes a two-player mode that plays differently than the 3-5 player game.
