At the turn of the century in Germany ... Amidst an autumn drizzle, a cloud of smoke at Munich's Central Station announces the arrival of the 4 o'clock train from Nuremberg. The roar of the huge machine grows louder and culminates in a screech as the locomotive, smoking and groaning, pulls into the platform. Immediately, porters in livery rush to unload the suitcases. On the opposite platform, a conductor blows his whistle, and another train sets off - bound for Berlin, the capital of the German Empire ...
