In Spartacus: A Game of Blood & Treachery, an exciting game of twisted schemes and bloody battles inspired by the successful STARZ Original series, each player takes on the role of Dominus, the head of a rising house in the ancient Roman city of Capua. Each house competes for influence to gain the favor of Rome. Through a combination of political schemes and glorious battles on the arena sand, your house will rise in fame and stature. As Dominus, a variety of resources are at your disposal. Guards protect you from the machinations of rivals. Slaves run your house and earn gold. Gladiators fight for glory for themselves and influence for their Dominus. In each game round of Spartacus, three main phases take place: A Game of Blood & Treachery. In the Intrigue phase, players launch their schemes, hoping to increase their fortune while undermining their rivals. Schemes and reactions are represented by cards in the Intrigue Deck. Players use their influence to bring their plans into play, often asking for (or bribing) another player's help in elaborating the most complex plans. In the Market phase, players buy, sell, and trade assets (gladiators, slaves, equipment, and guards). Players also bid against each other to acquire new assets. Wealth is not the only path to success, as players bluff and haggle with each other to acquire the coveted assets. In the Arena phase, the damned games take place. Gladiators from two rival houses face each other in a brutal fight for glory. The spectacle of the games is depicted through miniature battles on the arena board. The combatants pit their "Attack," "Defense," and "Speed" dice against each other to determine the victor. All players try to increase their fortune by betting on the outcome of the gruesome conflict. The combatants who emerge from the arena gain favor and their Dominus gains influence. The goal of the game is to become the most influential house in Capua to secure your family's power for years to come. During the game, players bribe, poison, betray, steal, extort, and undermine each other. Gold constantly changes hands to buy support, to hold someone's hand, or to influence their decisions. Will you be the honorable player whose word is their bond, or the treacherous intriguer whose alliances change with the wind?
