Charles IV was crowned King of Bohemia and ruler of the Holy Roman Empire. From his castle in Prague, he oversaw the construction of new fortifications: a bridge over the Vltava, a university, and a cathedral rising within the castle walls. Prague is already one of the largest cities in Europe. King Charles will make it the capital of an empire! In Praga Caput Regni, players take on the role of wealthy citizens organizing various building projects in medieval Prague. By increasing their wealth and participating in construction, they gain the king's favor. Players choose from six actions on the game board. The "crane" action is always available, but those with a constantly changing array of costs and benefits are weighted. With these actions, you can increase your resources, improve the strength of your chosen actions, and build the "New Town of Prague", Charles Bridge, or city walls. You can potentially gain additional actions or even participate in the construction of St. Vitus Cathedral.
Clever players will discover synergies between carefully planned actions and the benefits of building civic projects when all mechanisms are intertwined. In the end, the player who has impressed King Charles the most wins.
